Where/why did you get your pets? We have rescued dogs for years. We got Piper on his 1-year-old birthday from Doberman Rescue in Sandsdown, NH. We rescued Nico 2 years ago from a company called Soft Landings. John actually made the connection from Facebook. Nathalie Roy met us at a park so Nico could meet Piper. We were not planning on having another dog, but we did say that someday we would get a small dog … That someday happened sooner than we thought.
Is there a story behind their names? We normally change the dog’s names after we rescue them. We have had about 12 dogs and felt that if we gave them new names, it was a start to a new life. Not being sure where some of them came from, we wanted to not have anything that could be considered negative for the animal. Maybe someone yelled their name. Anyway, that’s John’s theory.
Anything special or unusual about them (talents/quirks)? Whenever I get close to Piper, he always puts his paw on my arm as if to hug me. He is a big love. Nico became instantly attached to me and follows me everywhere. He loves to eat! Not dog food, either. Organic chicken and beef mostly. I call him a Max Pin not a Min Pin! LOL! I rarely have had an overweight dog, but this one just loves to eat and will literally scream at the cookie jar for a wrapped chicken rawhide treat or look at the refrigerator and yell for some roast beef. And he knows if he goes “potty outside” first thing in the morning, he will be rewarded. (Unlike most of the dogs, Nico came from a family that was able to give me a little history on his likes and dislikes, so we understand eachother quite well, and I do spoil him … as well as Piper
What do you like best about your pet? I love that they love so much and are so happy to just go for a walk and enjoy the simple things in life. They are so beautiful, and I treat them like my children.
Funny stories? Nico jumps on Piper a lot right before I say “go for a walk?” He makes these “scary faces at the big Piper, and it just makes me laugh. They are great friends and great company for each other. They often lay down or sit in a way that they look like bookends, the exact same pose but in the opposite direction!
How spoiled is your pet? They are both very spoiled. They sleep in the bed, take walks daily, and often go swimming by the Farmington River or in our pool. They eat mostly organic (I cook for them), they take vitamins, omega fish oils, and opc3 and drink purified water. They are always with us and get a lot of attention. When we travel, there is always someone who sleeps at our home to take care of them.
What else should we know about your pet and/or how your pet has enriched your home/family? Pets are and have always been a beautiful part of our family. I think that most people feel the same way. They bring us something that is difficult to explain in words to someone who never had one. But pet lovers know what I mean. Unconditional love.
